Time for new capacity

Price stability in the enrichment market over the past year has enabled all three western enrichers to concentrate on plans to add or replace capacity with new facilities. A price war in the late 1990s that pushed primary long-term enrichment prices into the low $80s ended when USEC filed an antidumping case against its European competitors Eurodif and Urenco. The success of that case, along with the weakening of the US dollar, quickly pushed prices above $105 per SWU. Thus, primary suppliers have been able to focus on investing in new facilities.
