Usec ploughs on with American Centrifuge

Significant price pressure on labour, commodities and construction materials is increasing the anticipated cost for completing Usec's American Centrifuge Plant now under construction at Piketon, Ohio (see JVE/January 2008, p30). At this point, Usec estimates the project budget for the American Centrifuge Plant will be about S3.5 billion, which includes $615 million spent to 31 December 2007, but does not include costs for financing or financial assurance. A comprehensive budget review is still underway and the results are expected in June. A comprehensive review completed in early 2007 established a target cost estimate of $2.3 billion.
