Workers at the Fukushima Daiichi site are working to prevent further spread of contaminated water following a leak of 300 cubic meters of water from a storage tank on site. The Japanese regulator rated the leak as Level 3-a serious incident-on the International Nuclear Event Scale. TEPCO discovered the leak during a routine inspection on 19 August. An employee found water leaking from a rainwater drain valve in a dike surrounding tanks of contaminated water. A puddle with a depth of approximately 1-2 cm was found inside the dike, with two significantly larger puddles (3m x 3m and 0.5m x 6m) found outside, TEPCO said.
