I look through a lot 01 technical programmes for nuclear conferences, and the section I always turn to first is the spouses' programme. What are the wives up to this time? Wine tasting? Museum tour? Cookery class? Do you see my casual bit of sexism there? Not for a long time has 'spouse' necessarily meant 'wife'. This fact is driven by, and drives, a bit of welcome news that I heard earlier this year, that British nuclear workers now have their own branch of the international organization WIN - Women In Nuclear. I'd heard lots of good things about the German WIN organization, and was surprised that there was nothing here. WIN offers support and networking to women (and men) in the industry, in 30 chapters in 102 countries around the world. I understand that the new UK branch is planning a London conference January 20th to officially launch the organisation.
