The current regime for liability for the civil nuclear industry in the UK is governed by international conventions which are transposed into UK law by the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 (the NIA). The two key international conventions are the Convention on Third Party Liability in the Field of Nuclear Energy (the Paris Convention) adopted in 1960 and the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage (the Vienna Convention) adopted in 1963.
