Calder Hall project win for Astrel Alliance

Multi-discipline construction and maintenance service provider Hertel UK has partnered with Jacobs Engineering Group Ltd and Studsvik UK to win a substantial nuclear decommissioning contract at Calder Hall, Sellafield. The three companies secured the competitive tender after forming a joint venture called the Astrel Alliance for the Sellafield Decommissioning, Demolition and Waste Stream Framework (DDWSF). The Calder Hall contract incorporates the removal of all steelwork and pipework from two of the heat exchangers. Work started in August 2011 and is scheduled to run for one year. A multi discipline team of up to 40 personnel will be employed on the project at any one time.
