What is the process for retrofitting BIM to an existing facility?

There are a number of methods of retrofitting BIM to a facility which depend upon the level of existing information available. Should suitable as-built information be available, it is possible to construct a model from this. In the absence of existing data, a high-definition laser scan (known as a pointcloud survey) can be carried out. Laser scanning technology is used to produce a highly accurate pointcloud survey of a facility. The following stages are involved in the process. 1. Establishing a survey grid and datum which will relate all measurements accurately to Ordnance Survey National Grid and Height Datum.
