Areva to supply fuel assemblies for NuScale SMR

Areva Inc. has recently signed a contract to manufacture fuel assemblies for NuScale Power LLC's small modular reactor (SMR) technology. Mechanical and thermal hydraulic testing of the new fuel assemblies are under way as part of US-based NuScale's design certification application, which is planned for submission to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in late 2016. Areva's HTP advanced pressurised water reactor fuel has been designed for use in the SMRs currently under development. Under the agreement, Areva will supply the initial cores for NuScale's reactors as well as subsequent reloads.
