Awaiting the GDF - best practice for the storage of packaged wastes

1. As the planned opening of the UK Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) is still decades away, waste packages, and the stores that protect them, are therefore key assets that require active management. 2. Guidance on an integrated approach to the interim storage of waste packages was first published in 2012, and is maintained through the pan-industry Store Operations Forum (SOF), led by Radioactive Waste Management Limited (RWM). 3. The guidance comprises several elements designed to encourage good practice on waste package performance and to implement a well-underpinned monitoring and inspection regime.
