摘要

The amount of data used to convey map information needs to be greatly reduced to allow effi- cient transmission of map information over the Internet. This paper describes a map-information summary technique used to create route-guide maps that are provided to users over the Internet. This technique extracts information from a detailed residential chart to create a route-guide map, then omits unnecessary information and keeps only the information needed to ensure location accu- racy.
