In order to construct a resources recycling society, waste reutilization as resources is attracting increasing attention. Vitrification treatment has possibilities of not only utilizing. waste as civil construction materials, but also recovering valuable chemical components through high temperature treatment. NKK proposes a new vitrification process which recovers phosphorus from incinerator ash of sewage sludge. This process both produces highly utilizable slag, and recovers either yellow phosphorus or phosphoric acid form sludge incinerator ash by vitrifying it in a reducing atmosphere and volatilizing phosphorus. This report verified effectiveness of the phosphorus recovering vitrification process for incinerator ash of sewage sludge.
