How to Privatize the NEA

The national endowment for the Arts faces the prospect of extinction— or at the least a significant reduction in its funding—at the hands of the new Republican-led Congress. Despite their minimal drain on the federal budget, government-supported arts programs have always been a fur ball in the throats of the radical right, which finds them dominated by "elitists," "liberals," "weirdos" and other subspecies of American life. Now that Newt Gingrich and his myrmidons control the appropriations process, the NEA faces death by fiscal starvation.
