On 19 April,Toll New Zealand announced that it was seeking expressions of interest for the purchase of the TranzAlpine and TranzCoastal passenger services. Since Toll began operating the New Zealand rail network it has had inquiries from several overseas rail tourist operators about the two services. David Jackson, the company's Chief Executive, stated that the services would only be sold if the right buyer was found, otherwise Toll would continue to operate and enhance the services. No reasons were given in the announcement for the possible sale.
