Standing on the station platform with notebook and pen, Graeme Carter has observed the following. Also on the platform were Bob Armstrong, Graeme McClare, Bryan Blanchard, Ian Welch, Wally Derbyshire, and Rob Merrifield. After lengthy delays in its rebuilding former DX5235 emerged from Hutt workshops as DXR8022 and began trials on Wednesday 21 December 2005. The locomotive has a remanufactured General Electric 7DFL-12 diesel motor that produces 3,300 hp (2,460 kW) and a redesigned cab. The most notable difference between the cab of 8022 and the other member of the DXR class, 8007, is that 8022 has a vertical front windscreen, whereas 8007 is sloping.
