This year is shaping up to be an important year for rail in New Zealand. It will be a year of challenge and a year when the entire ownership structure could change,yet again. It all started at the beginning of December when the Minister of Finance's office confirmed that the Government and Toll NZ were having discussions on a variety of matters, such as track access charges, and all options, including a purchase, remained on the table.The Government is under pressure to resolve the track access charges issue, and purchase could be one option.
