Monday, 26 November 2012, was a special day in the life of the TranzAlpine, for it was the day that it started a new life with brand new rolling stock. Just a few days past the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the service between Christchurch and Greymouth, it would be hard to imagine a better 25th birthday present! And top management from KiwiRail were there to farewell the train, including their CEO Jim Quinn, who cut a birthday cake on the platform before the train set off for the West Coast.
