Euan was a man of many interests and parts. Many of these coalesced around railways and railway heritage. Hewas widely known in the heritage movement and will be sorely missed. His interest in railways stemmed from early childhood on train trips from Dunedin and later Wellington to the family crib at Karitane, north of Dunedin. He still remembered these journeys late in his life, and in fact his article on Oamaru, opposite, refers to them. He and his brother Ross were early members of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society. Euan joined in 1952 and was made a life Member in 2002. In 2012 he was awarded a Queen's Service Medal for services to rail transport and to education.
