Like Blood From Corners

I loved that long and narrow trailer, where we lived that summer with V, eating cherry pies form the corner store. She was pregnant and round, generous, like the loops in child letters. We laughed till our hearts weren't soiled anymore with WIC-check ink, soiled like the laundry in the tub of the trailer, stomped clean til the sheen in the letters returned. We were offsetting pain for V - that waiting for my uncle to come round, to spill lies that she could never corner.
