Hyperpsychorealitysyndrome is a short story by Wayne Holloway Smith in his second year as an undergraduate when he was tutored by the novelist Tibor Fischer. The story was submitted to BBC Audiobooks as part of their New Writing series featuring new writers. Selected works were professionally produced and marketed as audiobook downloads through iTunes. Within a week of the launch of this initiative, Hyperpsychorealitysyndrome, ready by Will Thorp, had reached No 1 in the iTunes audiobook chart, beating such established artists as Ricky Gervais and The Mighty Boosh. The story is about a pivotal moment in the life of an urban aesthete who takes a train journey from Egham, on the edge of the London conurbation, to the giant railway terminus of Waterloo in the centre of the city, accompanied by William Blake, John Donne, some Reeboks and Nikes and an oppressor of the honest proletariat.
