The Future for Older Workers. New Perspectives

Both books take as point of departure the recent change in government policy towards older workers. In particular, Western European countries used to favour early retire-rnment as an important instrument for solving unemployment, but during the last decade policy makers made a U-turn and are now focused on raising employment rates of the 50 plus age group and extending working lives. At the same time a more positive image of becoming older known as 'Active Ageing', has been projected on older workers. This new policy already seems to bear fruit as employment rates in most countries are moving upwards again. It certainly offers a promise for older workers: greater employment security, a higher appreciation of their capabilities, and a more flexible transition into retirement.
