Learning Technologies Last '98 Competition?

Aiming at a market gap between potential producers of electronic instructional technologies, which tend to be busy making products for other sectors, and educational institutions, many of which would be unable to employ the technolo- gies if they existed, the Advanced Technology Program (ATP) is launching its first-ever competition in the area of Adaptive Learning Systems. The "focused program," which carries deadlines of March 11 for optional pre-proposals and May 13 for finished applications, is the eighth to be announced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for fiscal year 1998 and this year's ninth ATP competition overall (NTW, Dec. 22, 1997, p.4).
