New Technique for Printing Braille on Ordinary Paper

This section describes selected developments of special importance or interest due to the achievement of a breakthrough or innovation in technology. Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. has developed a new technology for printing braille on ordinary paper. Printing is with a thermal transfer ribbon coated with an expandable ink that produces the braille foundation, and applying heat generates the braille stereoscopically. Up till now, braille used to be embossed on thick paper or printed on special- purpose foamed resin paper, but applying the new technique enables braille printing on retail outlet receipts and on postcards.
