It all begins quietly. The editor of Nature says that our paper on the cloning of lamb number 6LL3, alias Dolly, will be published on 27 February. That gives us just 10 days in which to finalise plans. From time to time over the past couple of months, researchers from the Roslin Institute, near Edinburgh, have discussed with PPL Therapeutics and its consultants, De Facto in Basingstoke (some 800 kilometres away), how best to handle the inevitable media interest. Nature is featuring Dolly in its press release for that issue and setting a press embargo until 7 o'clock on the evening before publication.
