Without a doubt one of the biggest changes affecting the biotech industry is the blooming of some of the world's emerging economies. As the economies in Brazil, Russia, India and China (known collectively as BRIC) grow, and life expectancy in those countries increases, their populations are seeing an increased need for drugs to treat diseases such as diabetes,cardiovascular diseases and cancer. People also have more money to spend on healthcare, and in China the government has pledged to provide health coverage to at least 90 per cent of its 1.3 billion citizens within the next 10 years.
