But space tourism has come a long way since American billionaire Dennis Tito paid an eye-watering $20 million for an eight-day vacation on the International Space Station (ISS) in 2001. If all goes to plan, next year Virgin Galactic will welcome its first paying passengers on board flights to the very edge of space.
