Secrecy backfires

Efforts to keep secrets by "redacting" scientific papers might cause the very problems they are supposed to prevent. That was the warning fromcyber-security specialist Bruce Schneier to a meeting at the Royal Society in London last week, after the decision by the US National Science Advisory Board (NSABB) for Biosecurity to publish two papers on H5N1 bird flu that can spread among mammals.
