Roll up, roll up: the biobank is open for business. Medical, lifestyle and genetic data from 500,000 middle-aged Britons is to be made available to medical researchers worldwide through the Biobank UK project, which has spent five years recruiting volunteers. The idea is to unravel the forces driving common diseases by tracking the fate of the volunteers, aged 40 to 69, in the years ahead.
