Smart tags may locate your missing TV remote for you (see main story), but what if they could also help you get spare parts for it? Kynetx of Lehi, Utah, is developing sensor tags that will direct you to the online 3D printing design for anything from your TV remote to your bicycle. That way, anyone needing to replace a battery cover or a bike light bracket, for example, can quickly access the design files and then print out the part they need. The system will use Tile bluetooth tags to find objects and QR codes to link objects to their print files online. "Tagging objects is going to be useful in ways we haven't even thought of yet," says Kynetx founder Phil Windley.
