It self-folds, walks and even swims. This 1.7 centimetre origami robot is made of plastic and contains a magnet that can be controlled by an external magnetic field. Created by Shuhei Miyashita and colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the robot is mostly made of materials that can dissolve in water or acetone -letting it recycle itself when its job is done. "We complete the cycle from birth through life, activity and the end of life," says Miyashita. "The circle is closed."
