It's the ultimate waterbed. Mediterranean monk seals have been filmed snoozing underwater for the first time. Motionless, they lie on their sides or bellies with their eyes and nostrils closed. "Until now, we thought that they slept only on land, in remote, inaccessible marine caves," says Alexandras Karamanlidis from MOm/The Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal in Athens, Greece.
