More than 400 million stars have been spotted as part of a project to create the most accurate stellar map ever. The European Space Agency (ESA) has just released a catalogue of more than 1 billion stars, as charted by the Gaia satellite. "In the future we will realise that this was a big day for our understanding of the universe," says team member Paolo Tanga from the Cote d'Azur Observatory in Nice, France.
