What carries 1400 passengers and travels at 60 kilometres an hour but takes up no space on the road? Step forward the "straddling bus" (see model above), which aims to solve China's urban congestion problems by carry ing passengers in cabins 2 metres above the road, letting cars pass underneath. Beijing-based company Transit Explore Bus plans to test a full-size model in July or August.
