Competition in the Republic of Ireland's pay-television market is set to intensify, with new entrants putting the squeeze on cable operators already under pressure from BSkyB. Broadworks, a Dublin-based cable company that formed in April last year, announced this week that it had raised ?2 million in order to expand and take on cable operators NTL and Chorus. The company has nearly 6,000 customers, and is working with developers in the greater Dublin area to fit cable in new residential developments, which are at a record high.
