Broadcasters attack delay to analogue switch-off

Italian broadcasters this week attacked the government of Romano Prodi for postponing analogue switch-off in two regions where digital-only terrestrial broadcasts were due to start in August. They said that the two-year delay announced last week by communications minister Paolo Gentiloni was excessive and would hurt broadcasters, particularly smaller ones. Switch-off has now been pushed back to March 1, 2008 in the island of Sardinia and to October 1, 2008 in the northern region of Valle d'Aosta.
