Upgrade boosts uptake at Germany's Kabel BW

Kabel BW, the German cable operator, this week said that triple-play subscriptions were increasing sharply as it presses ahead with its network upgrade. The operator, which has 2.3 million television customers in the Baden-Wuerttemberg region of south-west Germany, has now upgraded two-thirds of its network to offer digital television, broadband and telephony. The company started bundling the three products as long ago as 2003, but only recently have customers started to embrace bundles and nearly one in 10 customers now takes the full triple play. Chief financial officer Gerhard Bickmann said that Kabel BW expected to have 250,000 triple-play customers by the end of the year and was aiming for 550,000 by 2012. There were 184,000 at die end of August, compared to 110,000 at the start of the year. It has approximately 160,000 premium television customers.
