UK commercial broadcaster Five is considering launching more digital television channels once it has established Five Life and Five US in the market. Nick Thorogood, controller of the two new channels, said this week that he was "exceptionally pleased" with their performance in the 10 weeks since launch. He added: "At the moment we've got two channels that need to get to optimum potential. But as the market evolves we will look at what other services might be appropriate." Figures from audience research agency Barb show that Five Life and Five US have each picked up an average weekly audience share of around 0.4 per cent, while Five's own performance remained relatively constant. Over the 10 weeks to Christmas 2006, the main channel had an average weekly share in multichannel homes of 4.8 per cent, with five per cent the week before the two channels launched and 4.9 per cent in the last week of the period.
