Nearly one in every five European homes that take digital-terrestrial television now takes a pay-television product, whether basic tier, premium or pay-per-view. According to research by this publication, 7.1 million of an estimated 38.4 European digital-terrestrial homes take pay television, a take-up rate of 18.5 per cent. Pay services have not yet launched in many countries. In the nine countries where they have launched, pay-television accounts for almost a quarter (24.7 per cent) of all digital-terrestrial homes. More than half the total comes from two countries: Italy (3.5 million homes) and France (1.5 million).
