TV gas firm attacks report

Global gas provider Air Products this week hit back at claims by a leading US scientist that the gas it produces for the electronics industry could have a more significant impact on the environment than "the world's largest coal-fired power plants." Air Products is the world's biggest producer of nitrogen triflouride (NF3), a gas used in the production of flat-screen televisions and other devices with microchips. Research published last week by prominent environmental scientist Michael Prather and colleague Juno Hsu of the University of California, Irvine, said that the surge in demand for flat-panel displays meant the market for NF3 "has exploded."
