Studios soften film guarantees

Hollywood studios are softening their stance on minimum-revenue guarantees paid by video-on-demand operators to license films, especially in emerging markets, according to the On Demand Group. The company, which runs video-on-demand (VOD) services in the UK and German-speaking territories, secures film rights from the studios on behalf of its operator partners. Charl de Beer, On Demand Group finance director, said that the major studios usually demanded minimum-revenue guarantees of "hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds or euros per year".
