Europe could be set for a switch away from subscription and towards free-to-air, advertising-supported models for mobile television, industry analysts said this week. The German divisions of mobile telephone operators Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2 announced last month that they would start marketing the LG HB620T handset, which has a built-in digital-terrestrial television (DVB-T) receiver, in time for the European football championships in June. The combination of DVB-T and existing 3G services could prove attractive to mobile operators and provide competition to services based on DVB-H.
