The date for the launch of digital-terrestrial television in Ireland hangs in the balance as the country's broadcasting regulator restarts negotiations on transmission contracts for the three commercial multiplexes.rnIn July 2008, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) took the surprise decision to award the license to Boxer DTT, a joint venture between Swedish DTT operator Boxer and Irish media holding company Communicorp (NMM Jul. 24, 2008).rnBut after months of negotiations over a transmission contract, Boxer DTT pulled out on April 20, stating that "prevailing and anticipated economic circumstances" made the roll-out of DTT no longer viable under the business model that it had proposed.
