Fluorinated Resin Will Be Free Of Perfluorooctanoic Acid

Asahi Glass Co (AGC) Ltd has launched its line of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) products - Fluon PTFE E-Series - which are manufactured with a novel process and can be used in a range of applications including: 1. wire and cable insulation; 2. cookware coatings; 3. parts for electronics; and 4. hosing and tubing. Unlike conventional PTFE manufacturing, the E-Series process will not use ammonium salts of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). AGC plans to commercialize the Fluon PTFE E-Series at the beginning in 2009 and is targeting the complete conversion of its current PTFE products to Fluon PTFE E-Series by the end of 2010.
