Silk crepe kimonos made from ecologically friendly bioplastic

The Teijin Group of Tokyo, Japan, has announced that its Biofront heat-resistant bioplastic will be used in the manufacture of silk crepe kimonos to be worn by staff at a Japanese restaurant in the Japan Industry Pavilion of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China, which is due to begin on 1 May.rnThe fibre for the kimonos was produced in collaboration with the city of Kyotango, Japan, which is the home of traditional Tango silk crepe, or chirimen. Chirimen is particularly known and prized for its unique water ripple-like texture.
