Today's young talent will build us a better future

Last week we celebrated civil engineering's emerging talent at the 15th NCE Graduate Awards. The phrase that comes to mind with our six finalists is a resounding "wow!" I think that everyone in the Great Hall at the ICE shared this feeling. Not least as our worthy winner Jamie Radford gave an impressive acceptance speech in which he highlighted the rapidly changing challenges now facing the profession as we strive to build a sustainable future while coping with economic recession. Perhaps I say this every year, but it truly never ceases to amaze me just how much knowledge and wisdom these young engineers have already packed into such short careers with each able to reel off an enviable range of technical, practical and charitable achievements already under their belts.
