Open source search

Google couldn't open-source its search algorithms even if it wanted to. If they did that then they would be rendered useless. It would be far too easy for spammers to work out how to cheat the system into showing their pages on completely irrelevant search terms (Re: "Google found guilty of patent infringement for using Linux"; tinyurl.com/68oavxb). Google is a private company that uses open source software. It makes a profit by writing search algorithms and applying them in the real world. The search algorithms are not derived from previous open source code and there is therefore no requirement for them to open source its code.
