摘要

In many publications, it's customary to publish a list of the previous year's best or worst happenings at the beginning of a new year. NTR isn't going to indulge itself or subject its readers to that sort of exercise. Nevertheless, I can't resist pointing out that 2005 was a turning-point year for telecommunications. There were forces set in motion in 2005 that will define and shape this industry for many years into the future. I just finished reading a great book, "The World Is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman, which identifies two events that changed the world: the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the fall of the World Trade Center on 9/11. (I highly recommend Friedman's book.) If anybody ever writes a book about the world of telecommunications, there will be several significant events in the chapter on 2005.
