Authors' Reply to 'Comments on 'Summary of RTCA SC-159 GPS Integrity Working Group Activities''

The authors of the referenced paper [1] find that the comments in [2] accurately describe the decisions made in RTCA SC-159 Working Group 5. The group agreed that while exhaustive on-line Testing would be an adequate means of demon- Strating that the system performs its intended Function, this approach was not practical or cost- Effective. The working group adopted an approach To achieve this goal without compromising aviation Safety. Fault detection and exclusion (FDE) has always Been a technically challenging subject and is the Core of GPS aviation integrity today.
