On February 20, 2008, Jeremy McCrimmon, Project Engineer, USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN 711) Post-Collision Bow Restoration, spoke to the ASNE Tidewater Section regarding the many technical and management challenges involved with this project. The challenges included but were not limited to:rn1. inspecting and assessing the damage in Guam and preparing the SAN FRANCISCO to be towed to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard;rn2. the decision to replace the entire forward section of the ship with that of the USS HONOLULU (Note: HONOLULU was being decommissioned and it was significantly less expensive to repair SAN FRANCISCO, who had just recently been refueled than to refuel HONOLULU;
