A couple of years ago I wrote an article about stropping blocks. I showed the setup I used: a PanaVise to hold the blocks while working on them, a 3-inch diameter magnifying lens (about 1.75x to 2x magnification), and a 115-volt incandescent desk lamp. I have upgraded to improvements on these tools, using a shop-made LED work bench mounted unit and a Bausch and Lomb Model 4 "Stereozoom" Binocular Microscope (.7x to 3x), with 10x eyepieces. Both are on a custom made workstation permanently mounted on one end of my worktable together with the appropriate tools and supplies. This saves an incredible amount of time; I can just sit down, do a job, and not have to repeatedly concern myself with setting up the work site.
