The Sea Stallion from Glendalough, Roskilde - Dublin 2007: Pictures of a Trial Voyage

Even unfinished on the stocks, the Sea Stallion from Glendalough [Havhinsten fro Glendalough) was an impressive vessel. Sea Stallion is as close to a clone as possible of Skuldelev 2, the largest of five eleventh-century watercraft recovered from Roskilde Fjord in Denmark. Precise measurements and analyses of the surviving timbers were linked with data from other watercraft to create an experimental version of a "Viking" long ship. To sayrnthe Viking Ship Museum succeeded would be somewhat akin to saying the Apollo lunar missions were successful. The ship clearly touched the hearts and imagination of maritimers around the world.
